During our second student camp this summer I was unexpectedly placed as a ministry partner for an extra girls’ cabin. This was my first time being a ministry partner this summer. Our cabin was full of 16 and 17 year old girls. I got the chance to talk with the girls after they walked through a special worship service called “LFR after Dark.” It is an interactive worship experience where campers are shown a very clear picture of the good news of Jesus. One part of this service is where the ministry partner talks with the campers about what they have just experienced while the counselor takes each camper individually to talk. One girl had just finished talking to her counselor, Maggie, and she came and sat down next to me. She was crying. I asked her what she was thinking about and she said, “I want to be saved.” So I got to walk her through the gospel. She prayed to receive Jesus as her Savior. It was such an honor and privilege to sit across from her as she moved from death into life. The difference in her was so immediately evident. She said, “I have never been happy like this before.” I got to tell her “That’s joy. That’s a fruit of the Spirit because the Holy Spirit lives in you now!”
